Special children – special attention and understanding of others

Autism, Angelman syndrome – just the beginning of the list of 40 diseases that make a person unattainable in this world.

The unknown author owns the phrase that has become winged: “Special children are embodied angels.” To give them pleasure means to join something bright and valuable. Angel children give us immeasurably more than they receive from us.

Special children: understand and accept
A newborn is a part of the future in the present life. Congenital diseases, anomalies in development paint the present and future in dull tones. Each case is an iceberg, the visible part of which is perceived by surrounding people only as a family problem. In fact, the situation is much deeper.

The ability to overcome shortcomings and expand the list of advantages depends on the personal relationship of parents of special children.

Developmental abnormalities are usually diagnosed at birth or at preschool age. Signs of autism begin to manifest in children aged 3 to 6 years. The form of developmental disorders varies from mild to severe, with severe deviations noted in 2% of the population.

Common diseases and conditions causing developmental disabilities:

mental retardation (oligophrenia);
Down syndrome;
autism;
Cerebral palsy;
Tourette syndrome;
genetic disorders;
chromosomal abnormalities, for example, trisomy.
An inferiority complex develops in special children, convinced of their inability to compete with others. Some guys direct their anger about being different from their peers to their parents, others show willpower or act passively. Many feel victims, seek empathy, use their disease or condition to manipulate other people. Special children need special educational methods designed to solve specific problems.

Problem number 1 for parents — not to panic

The rights of the child are fixed in international documents, legislation of the Russian Federation. So, in Russian healthcare, children are all patients up to the age of 15 years. The law guarantees the right of parents to stay with the child in the hospital, the clinic during the entire period of its treatment within the walls of a medical institution.

In Russia, a significant number of children with physical and mental disabilities require medical assistance.

Parents have the right to receive accurate and complete information from the medical staff about the state of health of their child. This information about the results of diagnosis, methods of examination, diagnosis and treatment of the disease, the prognosis for recovery. Parents should also be informed about the options for medical intervention and the risks associated with each of them, the consequences of treatment, and its results.

The issuance of a “hospital” leaflet is also guaranteed by law. Allowance for caring for patients who are under the age of seven, is paid for all days of outpatient treatment, stay of a working adult with a small patient in the hospital. If children are more than seven years old, benefits over 15 days are paid only if there is a medical certificate.

Special children – the medical aspect of the problem

What doctors should and should not do – painful questions of Russian health care. Sometimes parents of special children are too keen on “knocking out” rights and privileges, they are considered to be braggers. Other employees of the medical institution consider themselves to be the elect caste, interrupted at the reception, cut short in half words, and accused of incompetence of the parents of sick children. Confrontation is a hopeless occupation, the way out of the situation is cooperation.

What questions parents of special children can discuss with the doctor:

whether the safety and efficacy of the applied methods of diagnosis and treatment has been proven in clinical studies;
what is the purpose of the procedures planned by the specialist, what results are expected;
what feelings the child will experience during the examination (discomfort, pain);
what is the nature and likelihood of complications;
are there alternative services, what are the conditions for their provision.
Important! Coordination of diagnosis and treatment with the child’s parents is the responsibility of the attending physician.

To learn the correct diagnosis at the first admission from the doctor in case of developmental disabilities, genetic diseases of children is rare luck. No one is immune from mistakes, there is no absolute guarantee in the success of even the most expensive diagnosis. It is recommended to visit several doctors, each time accurately record the wording of the diagnosis.

The help of specialists

In municipal health authorities, parents can find out about the conditions and timing of medical and social expertise (ITU). Experts of the respective city or regional bureau conduct an examination, establish the disability group, on which the size of the allowance and other social protection measures depend. Families raising special children also need to know about the work of the psychological, medical and pedagogical commission (PMPK). Her task is to give a conclusion reflecting the possibilities of children in terms of education.
